Jan Baan – Winnaar Gouden Computable Award

(Video in English)

Bitcoin Cash vs Bitcoin Core

Everyone is always talking about Bitcoin, but Bitcoin Cash just had it’s first Europan Hackathon in Amsterdam organized by BTC.com. There were lots of people there who think Bitcoin Cash is the original Bitcoin and that it’s the TRUE realization of Satatoshi Nakamoto’s vision. I interviewed some of the main Bitcoin Cash developers and asked them why. Also there’s a Bitcoin Cash hard fork scheduled every six months and there is one coming up soon. What does this mean and why do they do it?

Lead & Senior Bitcoin Cash Developers

I interviewed Amaury Séchet who is the Lead Developer Bitcoin Cash ABC. Why Bitcoin Cash instead of Bitcoin Core? Why is there a scheduled Hard Fork every 6 months? And what does he think of the hackathon and the projects?

Gabriel Cardona is senior developer Bitcoin Cash at Bitcoin.com. Why is he a BCH-believer and how is it different from the “normal” Bitcoin?

Bitcoin Cash Association

I interviewed Paul Wasensteiner of the Bitcoin Cash Association. What is this association? And why Bitcoin Cash, not the “normal” Bitcoin Core? The Bitcoin Cash Association was formed in a Bitcoin Cash chat group in 2017. It was started by a simple request to the community to crowdfund a short promo video for Bitcoin Cash. The outpouring of support across the industry was phenomenal, and it became crystal clear that there was a need for an organisation to take on this role permanently.

CoinSpice – Bitcoin Cash Media

I interviewed Mike Malley of CoinSpice. CoinSpice is a media organization/news site that aims to advance Bitcoin Cash as a viable payment method for everyone in the world. Also asking Mike, why Bitcoin Cash? And what does his platform do to promote BCH?

Chief Blockchain Officer in the UK

At the CC-Forum Blockchain Conference people discussed how to restructure Britain after and the financial system after the Brexit. I talked to a member of parliament Eddie Hughes who asks for a Chief Blockchain Officer and wants a prominent role in the new UK system. Talk of the town was the collapse of ICO’s and the coming STO Security Tokens Offering: shares on the Blockchain. Why is he interested? 20% of his voters have identity problems. This is the last budget day of the UK inside Europe! Never spoil a good crisis. What does he expect of the budget and does blockchain innovation have more chance because of the Brexit? Interesting talk!

Why CC-FORUM is a great conference

Why does Robyn Friedman (Chief Blockchain Officer of GameFaceLabs) who worked 10 years in the city on the most difficult complex financial products thinks CC-Forum is a great relevant conference? She explains the current way that assets are virtualized in the financial industry and how it will change the industry. She currently creates rules for a new VR/AR world which is 100% different. Why did she makes that change?

The last budget day

I was in London on the last budget day before England actually leaves Europe. I felt people in the city are so confused… I walked to Downing Street 10 and interviewed a famous political satire painter Kaya Mar from Spain who lived for 40 years in Britain and does not understand why the country is totally divided. He thinks Britain is on a suicide mission.  Interesting to get a feeling how this nation is split in two. Enjoy the last budget day while Britain is still a member of Europe!

Mining Pool

BTC.com is a huge Bitcoin mining pool that has 18% of all Bitcoin miners and has over 1.5 million Bitcoin walles. In a pool, miners work together to have a higher success rate in solving Bitcoin blocks. The profit is shared among participants in the pool. Their European office is located in the Rembrandt Tower.

Hackathon

The company is owned by Bitmain (biggest producer of mining equipment from China). This weekend (27 & 28 oct) they organize world’s first Bitcoin cash Hackathon at Rockstrat offices in Amsterdam with great speakers like the Bitcoin cash main developer Amaury Sechet and €3.5k in prize money in BCH which will have a hard fork next month. An interview with VP Alejandro De La Torre. Marketing manager Nikolett Daru invites everybody to come. Even if you do not hack yourself come take a look! Sign up for the Hackathon

CEO Bitmain

Earlier a did this great interview with Bitmain CEO Jihan Wu: wold’s largest Bitcoin miners manufacturer & BTC mining pool. His story!

European Women Payments Network

It is no secret that women are still underrepresented in tech & finance. The European Women Payments Network (EWPN) is the first & only Pan-European network/community that is dedicated to bring together women from all EU/EEA member states, working in cards, fintech & payments. This week, the EWPN held their annual conference with 300 women talking about how they can increase the role of women in the industry. Watch an overview of the event below:

Interviews

I interviewed the attendees at the conference and asked them: Why are they part of the network? What is their role? Are there so few women on top because of men, because of the organizations or because of women their selves? A few of these videos are highlighted below:

Martha Mghendi-Fisher is the one of founders of EWPN and I ask her about her experiences. Why and how did she start this network? What does EWPN do? Who are the members? What are the goals and what can you get out of it?

Rikke Staer is the CCO of Coinify, a crypto exchange with 45% female employees. Why is she member of the European Women Payment Network? And what are here personal experiences? We also talk about the money laundring legislation and how they are going to deal with it.

Iris Sluiter is the head of market access department at the Dutch Central Bank (DNB). Why did she join the #EWPN network? How does she look at the position of women at the regulations, the banks, and the other financial institutions?

Conny Dorrestijn chaired the EWPN conference and has been in payments since forever! After 2 days moderating I ask her: What differences does she see compared with a male event? Speakers, organization, food, looks? And what is the future of payments? What trends did she spot? Will open banking change the game?

The rest of the interviews can be watched in the playlist below. Interviewed attendees are: Silvia Mensdorff-Pouilly (Founder EWPN), Mélisande Mual (The Paypers), Tony Craddock (Emerging Payments Association), Nilixa Devlukia (Open Banking), Catherine Wines (WoldRemit), Gijs Boudewijn (Dutch Payment Association) & Dave Birch (Consult Hyperion).

Insurance industry & Innovation

Innovative fintech solutions will play a big role in the insurance industry of the future. The Digital Insurance Agenda (DIA) taps into that and is dedicated to accelerate the crucial innovation of the insurance industry as the first global community that connects insurance executives to fintech leaders.

DIA Munich 2018

This week, DIA was in Munich and I was there to see how 1000 insurance companies met with 50+ tech startups & grow ups that will disrupt the insurance industry live in action; in just two days! Watch my overview of this great innovation event where I will also show you a very interesting Dutch invention named Somnox that helps to promote sleep, a favorite of Conny Dorrestijn.

PVDA Politici over technologie & politiek

This week we installed our unique Greenmine crypto container which is 95% efficient and uses the energy to grow tomatoes. I am partner in Greenmine and we are on a mission to make this the most sustainable mining operation. Take a look at the installation!
